MLK Day Events

This year, BGAPSA is partnering again with the African American Resource Center (AARC  3643 Locust Walk next to the Women’s Center) for the annual Day of Service in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The day kicks off with the Breakfast at 8:30am in Houston Hall, Hall of Flags. Pastries and juice will be served. The breakfast program will include a speaking address by activist, author and social worker Feminista Jones, and spoken word performances from for amazing student artists.

The Day of Service is scheduled for – Monday, January 16, 2017 so come out and participate in:

Day of Service Breakfast
8:30 am – 9:45 am

Children’s Banner Painting (adult supervision required)
10:00 am – 12:30 pm

Philadelphia Reads Literacy Project (creating books on tapes)
9:45 am – 1:00 pm

Helping Hands (creating gifts that will be donated to West Philadelphia area shelters)
10:00 am – 12:30 pm

Super Hero & Fairy Princess Project – (creating tutus and capes to donate to area Day Care Centers)
10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Clothing Drive (clothing donated to Career Wardrobe for women reentering the workplace)
10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Understanding the College Application Process (high school juniors and seniors are invited)
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

It is also our tradition to provide painting and beautification volunteer services off campus at designated sites in the West Philadelphia area. For more up-to-date information on these projects, please visit:

In particular, we are in need of volunteers for the College Application Process Workshop, as well as two volunteers to lead Children’s Banner Painting. We are also in need of students who can help make tutus and super hero capes to be donated to local daycare centers.
